It is often said that Les Gets is the perfect family ski resort – but why? In some resorts there is a big trek from the town to the slopes, but in Les Gets the slopes and lifts are right in the middle of the village. The nursery slopes are accessible from the town, or from the top of the famous red gondola – so there is no need for a terrifying chairlift before you have ever had a lesson.
The Mairie also market and promote the town as a family ski resort. They put on a welcome fireworks display every Monday night (or New Years Eve), where there is free vin chaud for the parents and entertainment for the children. There are also lots of child friendly events in town – miniature pony rides, pottery workshops, chocolate tastings, and of course Santa comes to visit over the festive period.
None of this means that your teenagers, or the adults will suffer: the Les Gets, Morzine and wider Portes de Soleil ski area provides some of the best skiing for all abilities. The black Coupe de Monde run from Avoriaz to Prodains is a must for speedy skiers, and Les Gets Yeti run is a mogul lovers dream.
For a small additional cost, we can provide cots (linen not supplied), highchairs and child gates in any of our properties.
If you need to arrange child care, the only crèche facilities ("halte garderies") in Les Gets are French-run, although English is spoken:
Les Fripouilles
Club des P'tits Montagnys (run by the ESF)
Details of these are at www.lesgets.com/en/garderie/index.html
Les Fripouilles has an email address which is lg-events@mairie-les-gets.fr, but you may get a better response if you telephone.
Alternatively, if you would prefer an English-run service, there are a few Morzine operators that will provide a nanny at the chalet or apartment:
Cheeky Monkeys Childcare - www.cheekymonkeysmorzine.com
Jack Frosts - www.jackfrosts.net
Morzine Nannies - www.morzinenannies.com/lesgets.html
There is also a French-run crèche in Morzine called Halte Garderie L'Outa www.outa-morzine.com/uk/index.html, where English is spoken.
We can take no responsibility for any child care you arrange and you will need to make any checks that you consider necessary to ensure you are happy with the service to be provided.
